Hear me out, it was never this hot when I was a kid. Back in the 90s my cousins and I would be outside every day during the summer, excepting the two hours we took for a lunch break and to watch Toonami (so many fond memories of Sailor Moon, DragonBallZ, Tenchi Universe and Gundam Wing). After using the blessed AC for those two hours, we had no problem going back out to ride bikes, play with our grandma's dog, or any other manner of games that kids used to play, stopping only to take a drink from the hot water flowing fresh from the outside water hose. Our grandparents had no problem with the heat, so honestly, it was just as hot inside the house as it was outside, but at least you had the chance of a breeze outside instead of having to take turns to pour water into the swamp cooler we used in the living room during lunch.
I can't even stand outside under a shady tree for longer than 20 minutes just talking with friends before I feel like I'm about to have a heat stroke. Ok, it's not that bad, but I get drained so quickly that I feel like I'm one step away from panting like a dog if I don't just succumb and pass out first from the dry and waterless conditions in which I have found myself. If I have a cool drink or a pool to jump into, then I'm ok, but then again that's been my life for at least the past 14 years, from when I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and found that I have a heat intolerance. Really, heat is a trigger for me and I have to have my ways to stay cool outside or I just don't even tempt fate. My husband even made a tote for me that is filled with fans, various water sprayers, handkerchiefs to wrap around my neck and the such. Honestly, he's so sweet and thoughtful. 🥰 In true creative fashion we termed it the "Keep-Elisa-cool-box."
Speaking of the hubby, he told me the other day that after looking at past temperature recordings from the 90s, there really isn't much of a temperature difference between then and now. I call that a bunch of bull, it is definitely hotter now than it was 25 years ago no matter what actual official scientific records show. All I need now is a bowl of hot caldo that my Grandma used to make and it'll really feel like summer.
